It depends on how many credits you already have. With 30 credits behind you, a 15-credit 4.0 term lifts a 3.0 cumulative to about 3.33; with 90 credits behind you, the same perfect term only reaches about 3.14. The more credits you have, the more slowly it moves in either direction.

Most schools require a 2.0 cumulative GPA to graduate, and many majors require higher within major courses. Scholarship renewals and honors programs commonly sit at 3.0 to 3.5. Your catalog has the exact requirements.

Run the math with this calculator: enter 2.5 with your current credits, then add future terms as courses. If you have 60 credits at 2.5, you would need roughly 45 more credits at a 3.67 average to cross 3.0. Sometimes the target is reachable and sometimes the credits simply are not there, and knowing which changes your strategy.

Usually not: they transfer as credit hours without grades, so they raise your earned credits but leave your GPA untouched. That also means they do not dilute a strong GPA or rescue a weak one.
